The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is recruiting to fill an Agency GIS Technology Coordinator in Augusta, Maine. 

 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is advanced work coordinating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and technology for the Bureau of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources. This position will develop technology and GIS tools, with a focus on supporting response activities for farms impacted by per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). 

The position requires: 

  • A high level of organization and attention to detail in maintaining knowledge of tools for ESRI and Microsoft and designing or assisting in the design for maximum utilization within programs.
  • The ability to operate large-format ink jet plotters and a wide-format digital scanner.
  • The ability to use graphics software to combine figures, diagrams, and images with text for map and report publications.
  • Assisting with natural resource geospatial analysis. 

Work is performed under general supervision and in collaboration with other technology and program staff. 

The successful candidate will need strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, enjoy being part of a team, love to learn, research, and troubleshoot. DACF is transitioning to a mobile, spatially enabled workforce, so experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, Field Maps, Survey123, and ArcGIS Hub is preferred. 

Additionally, DACF makes broad use of the Microsoft Office applications – Power Apps, Power Automate, Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint – so proficiency with these tools is desired. Any experience with ArcGIS and/or database ad hoc querying using SQL, spatial data presentation using Esri’s Dashboards or Experience Builder applications is also a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A six (6) year combination of education, training, and/or experience directly related to the operation, development, and maintenance of GIS systems, database management and project coordination. A Bachelor’s  degree with coursework in information technology/GIS is preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience using ArcGIS to display complex natural resource data features and strong cartography and map design knowledge. Work experience and/or education in GIS development using Python and database design using Esri’s ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, file geodatabases, and enterprise geodatabases (SQL Server) is highly desired. The ideal candidate would also have an undergraduate degree in a natural science and/or at least three (3) years of relevant GIS or technology work experience.
