*The position may involve a hybrid work schedule (office/remote) but will require significant in-state travel to each of Maine’s agricultural fairs and some out-of-state travel for regional and national trade shows as well as the Big E Fair.

 

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is recruiting to fill an Agricultural Promotional Coordinator position out of the Augusta office.

 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position oversees the licensing, inspection, evaluation, and regulatory functions of Maine’s Agricultural Fairs in accordance with state statutes and policy. The position audits, prepares, and presents reports and information related to fair stipends, agricultural exhibits, and animals on display. 

This position will support the marketing and promotional work of the Division of Agricultural Resource Development, including assisting with promotional events. The position will aid in the development and implementation of strategies to increase awareness of Maine agriculture, agritourism, agricultural products, and commodity groups. Work is performed with limited Supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Production, Natural Resources Management, Marketing, Media/Communications, or directly related field and four (4) years experience in agricultural management, marketing, and/or related field. Related training and experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and/or experience regarding agricultural industries and the operation of agricultural fairs, public administration and management procedures, and the ability to interpret and explain laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Must have experience in developing and implementing marketing strategies including copywriting, photography, theme development, event planning and promotion, and collaboration amongst stakeholders. Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong project management and prior work with developing budgets, financial reports, and cost analyses is preferred. Experience in data collection and analysis, report preparation, and communicating findings and recommendations with stakeholders, the legislature, and the public is also preferred.
