Gear up for outdoor adventures at our day camp located in Anchorage on the campus of Alaska Pacific University. We take full advantage of this natural setting, making every day another opportunity for campers to explore the forest, practice target sports, or launch a canoe from the waterfront. In addition to a huge catalog of activities and games, we structure each session to create a classic, outdoor summer camp experience.


Position Summary: 

The Camp Fireweed Boating Specialist adheres to Camp Fire Alaska’s (CFA) promise to provide youth with the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are through positive and responsible youth/adult interactions within the day camp environment. The Boating Specialist will be providing fun and dynamic instruction, guidance, and supervision to staff and campers during boating (canoeing and kayaking) and natural bodies of water (bird identification, shoreline exploration, etc.) lessons and activities. You'll have the opportunity to teach and evaluate the skills of the campers and staff with regard to boating techniques.

In this position you'll gain valuable experience providing a high-quality camp experience for participants and parents within the CFA mission and goals. You'll have an opportunity to lead and participate in all camp activities along with planning and implementing age appropriate activities consistent with campers' needs/abilities that promote, encourage, and demonstrate caring, striving and thriving. Pay: $23.64/hour

  • Bonus for completing the full season

Work Dates: May 6th - August 2,  2024 (beginning with planning and start-up training)

Work Schedule: Up to 8 hours/day, Monday - Friday, between camp hours of 7am - 6pm


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior experience in boating, kayaking, canoeing and other paddle sport equipment..
  • Flexibility in task management and communication to match with changes in operational needs.
  • Current lifeguard certification (by start of position)
  • Ability to pass a Camp Fireweed Lifeguard Skills Verification Test
  • 18 years of age or older
