Our roots lie deep in the Kenai River. Alaska Rivers Company was one of the first oar powered outfitters to run on the upper Kenai River, dating back to 1974. Over the past 50 years we have built our operations to be based upon delivering superior personal service, hiring only the best guides and using the highest quality, highly maintained equipment to share the Kenai River with our guests. We are proud to offer Alaska river rafting trips, Alaska guided fishing and Alaska cabin rentals all on the beautiful Upper Kenai River and through the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge through our special use permits.

We will be hiring one or more guides for the 2024 season. Our season lasts from May 1- October 15. Preference will be given to those candidates able to stay for at least 3 months.


General Guide Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age or older required by Alaska State Parks
  • Obtain a valid Basic 1st Aid / CPR Certification
  • A current driver’s license or picture ID
  • The ability to multi task
  • Clean driving record
  • No felony charges
  • Positive Attitude

Additional Prefered Skills/Qualifications
:

  • WFR/WEMT
  • A valid US Coast Guard Commercial 6 passenger license

Fishing Guide


We are permitted for the entire length of the Upper Kenai River, and run Middle Kenai River trips for our lodge package guests. We operate in 18-20 ft. aluminum drift boats. The standard guide boat for the Kenai is four or fewer fishermen per guide. The Upper Kenai is drift only waters and is an anglers paradise and the Middle River is home to some massive fish. You will be expected to be versed in bank and boat techniques for fly fishing and spin fishing for rainbow trout/char and Sockeye, Silver, and Pink salmon. You will need a Coast Guard License to guide the Kenai Canyon and the Middle Kenai River. We have both new guide and professional guide positions available. We run a very team focused operation and expect our fishing boatmen and women to help out in any capacity that they are needed. *see scenic guide/ fishing apprentice for those interested in learning the ropes*

  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Exemplary rowing skills
  • Clean and organized
  • Obtain an Alaska State Parks Commercial Use Permit by attending the Kenai River Guide class offered in person by Alaska State Parks. Contact ARC for more information and assistance on registering. (Registration must be completed in November, with the class held in January).
  • Pre-employment drug screening
  • Obtain a valid Alaska Sport Fishing license required for Kenai River fishing guides. License can be purchased on-line at alaska.gov
  • Kenai River fishing guides may not have been convicted of a felony with in the past 5 years and may not have been convicted of more than 1 misdemeanor violation of provision 5 (Fish & Game regulation) with in the past 5 years
  • We can provide fishing rods and reels for first year guides, by your second year you will expected to have your own.

Scenic Rafting / Hiking Guide


This position is a very fun and exciting job that keeps you always on the move. This job is good for experienced boatmen and women and for new greenhorns as well. This is a perfect position for people looking for a job for summer break from college, or for someone wanting to get into the guiding and learn the ropes. In this position you will learn a lot of valuable skills and assets that are key to our operations success. In this position you will gain valuable knowledge that will allow you to become qualified to run our other tours in the future. We are very team oriented and you will be expected to help everyone out wherever you can.


Scenic Guide / Fishing Apprentice


This is the same position as the scenic guide but is catered to individuals who are looking to acquire the skills and knowledge to become a fishing boatman or woman. You will be assisting in all aspects of the fishing operation. The only way to learn is to do it, and this fun and exciting job sets you up to become a future fishing guide.
