Description

GENERAL INTRODUCTION: 
Each position employed with CYO Camps helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description. 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE: 

Works closely with the Equine coordinator to ensure the horse program is safe and in line with our standards. 

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES: 

  • Monitors horses for changes in behavior and condition and notifies the head wrangler immediately.   
  • Helps feed the horses including special diets prescribed by the riding director. 
  • Does regular training rides with horses that are not quite camper horses yet, or are having behavior problems.  
  • Interviews campers and assigns them to horses that fit their ability, personality, and body type. 
  • Leads arena and ground lessons following the camp curriculum. 
  • Constantly monitors camper interactions with horses to ensure safety. 
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the corral. 
  • Does regular rescue drills to ensure that skills are kept up to date. 
  • Assign staff to riding lessons 
  • Assign horses to arenas 
  • Monitor staff for competency and work within the evaluation system to help them improve. 
  • Evaluate and train horses that are having issues 
  • Call the riding director or vet/farrier in emergencies. 
  • Coordinate food for wrangling staff 
  • Ensure staff are coordinating the Catholic faith in horseback riding activities. 
  • Coordinate with main camp for breaks, schedules, trail use 

Qualifications

Primary: 

  • Camper and horse safety at all times 

Experience: 

  • 5+ years of horse experience

Other Elements: 

  • Commitment to the mission and values of CYO. 
  • Ability to work under pressure in time constraints. 
  • Must be able to lift/move course elements. 
  • Willingness to pitch in with other general camp duties when needed, like moving luggage, and cleaning areas other than the kitchen and dining hall.  
  • Current CPR/First Aid  
  • Must be at least 21 years of age. 

 

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
