Job Summary:


We are seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals to join our team as Summer Camp Counselors. As a counselor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of campers while providing a fun and engaging experience. You will work with a team of counselors to plan and implement daily activities, games, and crafts that promote teamwork, creativity, and personal growth.


This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lead Summer Camp Counselor at YMCA of Natrona County maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. 


Responsibilities:


  1. Supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times
  2. Plan and lead daily activities, games, and crafts
  3. Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all campers
  4. Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members and model relationship-building skills in all interactions
  5. Provide guidance and support to campers as needed
  6. Maintain a clean and organized campsite
  7. Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness
  8. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
  9. Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions
  10. Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

 

- Must be at least 18 years old

- Ability to work the entire summer, June 3 - August 23, 2024

- Experience working with children, preferably in a day camp setting

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to work in a team environment

- Ability to lead and engage campers in activities

- Ability to maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude

- Ability to supervise and play with children in a pool setting is required

-Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games or art

- Must be willing to work outdoors

- Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours

- Integrity and ability to work independently with attention to detail required

- Operation of 15-person passenger van for transportation purposes (18 and older only)

- Complete within 30 days of hire: YMCA Cause & Culture training; Child Abuse Prevention Training, BLS CPR/AED/First Aid

- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

- Must be able to pass a background check and drug test

Salary Description
$12.00 - $15.00 per hour
