Green Season Program Team Leader


A number of exciting opportunities have become available to join the Evergreen Leadership Team for the 2024 Green season. Seeking Applications for Team Leaders in our camp programs: Nagano Ninjas (7-8 Years), Water Wizards and Mountain Masters (9-12 Years) and Japan Alps (13-16 Years) , you will work closely with our Camps Manager to build on the successes of the program, and provide exceptional experiences to our campers.

This role is an outdoor and indoor role supporting a team working within the program to ensure activities and experiences are Safe, Fun, and provide some great Learnings.

For this role previous leadership/supervisory experience is desirable, but not essential. This role would be a great learning experience, potential stepping stone for a future role in or out of the industry.


To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Knowledge of the Outdoors Industry, in particular camps experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate well to both campers and colleagues
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Experience as an counselor or outdoor guide

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE: Green Season Program Team Leader

REPORTS TO: Camps Manager


POSITION SUMMARY

This Team Leader role is responsible for the successful delivery of our programs. Working closely with the Camp Manager, and other Team Leaders to ensure the successful daily operations of the camps across multiple locations and to a wide range of campers.


POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Duties include:

Managing a team of up to 15 staffing who are assigned to operate the programs. There are a variety of duties in the office and duties outside on the outdoors. This includes assigning counselors or guides to activities according to the number of campers. The Team Leaders goal is to achieve a manageable ratio of campers to counselors and guides in line with operational goals. This includes managing activities and schedules to other groups

 

TEAM LEADER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Lead or help with activities such as nature hikes, arts, crafts, indoor games, teambuilding, outdoor cooking, evening activities, campfires.
  • Organize pickups/drop off to campers in Tokyo via train.
  • Effective supervision of all campers’ arrivals and departures ensuring that room allocations and check in/check out process are managed efficiently. 
  • Convenes a daily team meeting to share information relevant to operations (weather, relevant safety information, expected number of campers, any operational issues),
  • Report any health or safety hazards, faults, repairs, cleaning needs and accidents to Programs Director. Record on the appropriate Accident Report form immediately following accident.
  • Contribute to cost control through energy conservation, correct storage of all materials and use of equipment per operating standards and manufacturer’s specifications. Control electricity usage.
  • Assigns counselors/ guides to activities
  • Co-ordinates with other Team Leaders to share staffing requirements
  • Ensures that the activities scheduled are running on time.
  • Tracking of working hours of staffing
  • Ensures that the staff are supported on the the activities starts i.e. moving students to another class, bringing additional staff to help with difficult splits.
  • Distribute  lunches to all internal and external lunch providers in a time frame agreed. Work also alongside hotel and kitchen staff to ensure that lunch numbers are accurate daily, paying attention to dietary requirements.
  • Co-ordinate lunch locations and times.
  • Cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring proper use of camp facilities and equipment.
  • Works with the Camp Manager to ensure activities areas and spaces are set up, and run safely.
  • Complete timesheets for their staff – this to ensure accurate pay
  • Records and works towards resolving problems with staff, operations
  • Proficient multitasker – working together with our campers, staff and guest services team to provide a seamless experience for the campers
  • Strong organizational skills for daily scheduling and good oversight/forward planning skills for the days ahead
  • Good communication skills - able to interact with guests and staff from various nationalities and cultures,
  • Leadership skills: being a positive role model with respect to service delivery, courtesy towards others, attention to detail, fairness, inclusiveness. Be and promote/display a positive attitude in good times and bad.
  • Focused on Guest Service – ensures a seamless experience between activities start and completion.
  • Be good at getting things done. Knowing the resources required and available to solve problems
  • Adaptability/Flexibility: able to assess situations and provide solutions based on the situation, needs of the customer, available resources (other staff, transportation), the operational priorities/restrictions of the day,
  • Detail oriented – to know that the devil is in the details when it comes to pay, planning, execution of Camps operations.
  • Passion for the outdoors and kids

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Due to the many variables that affect business operations, occasionally, employees may be asked to perform other duties or assist in efforts outside their primary area of responsibility, when admin staff deems it necessary. This may include performing in any subordinate position.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience working in camps, with children, or with specific activities may be preferred.
  • First aid, CPR, and additional training may be beneficial.
  • Physical ability to participate in activities, run, climb, swim, lift, or support the weight of children.
  • Upbeat, engaging personality.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • VISA eligibility to work in Japan
