Job Title: Assistant Camp Coordinator

Leadership Level: Team Leader

FLSA Status: Full time/Seasonal

Reports to: Summer Camp Director

Primary Function/Department: Youth Development

Salary: $13.00-$15.50 per hour


POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Assistant Summer Camp Coordinator at YMCA of Natrona County maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. 

The Assistant Camp Coordinator is responsible for specific aspects of the summer camp program including: organization, implementation, and maintenance of summer camp program, camper development, staff development, and maintaining good public relations with parents, affiliate programs and participants.. The Assistant Summer Camp Coordinator will provide a positive role model to youth within the philosophy of YMCA standards and expectations with an emphasis on youth development and healthy living.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist with supervision and development of programs, camp staff and program delivery in accordance with YMCA standards.
  2. Assists with support services for camp, such as registration, administration, etc.
  3. Increase camper and staff awareness of the core values.
  4. Enforce safety and health regulations, following emergency procedures as outlined.
  5. Enforce and follow all camp rules and policies in accordance with YMCA standards.
  6. Inform Camp Director of ethical considerations or issues or potential parental concern that affect the experience of the campers or staff.
  7. Assist Camp Director in design and implementation of camp programs.
  8. Schedule and monitor time off for staff.
  9. Provide and communicate schedules as needed for camp staff.
  10. Assist in verbal and written evaluations for camp staff.
  11. Attend and facilitate camp staff meetings.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements


  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to work the entire summer, June 3 – August 23, 2024
  • Previous experience working with children aged 4-12 years, preferably in a day camp setting
  • Ability to supervise and play with children in a pool setting is required
  • Must be willing to work outdoors
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games or art
  • Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours
  • Integrity and ability to work independently with attention to detail required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Operation of 15-person passenger van for transportation purposes (18 and older only)
  • Complete within 30 days of hire: YMCA cause & culture training; Child Abuse Prevention Training, BLS CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check and drug screening
