Summary

This is a full-time position at the Double 4 Ranch near Wheatland, Wyoming that is responsible for farm machinery maintenance and repair, as well as expertise in irrigation systems. This position will ensure the smooth operation of our farm equipment and irrigation systems to maximize productivity and efficiency. This is a hands-on role that requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of farm operations. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Handle light maintenance, painting and repair for all of the facilities on the properties; provides preventive maintenance and minor repair work for all operating equipment.
  • Maintains the domestic water and sewer systems, water wells, and yard and pasture irrigation systems.
  • Operate and calibrate irrigation systems, including pumps, valves, and sprinklers, to ensure proper water distribution and minimize wastage.
  • Monitor weather conditions, soil moisture levels, and crop water requirements to adjust irrigation schedules accordingly.
  • Manage weed control program, including herbicide application which might require an applicator's license and physically chopping some noxious weeds.
  • Assist with planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops as needed, using appropriate machinery and equipment.
  • Perform general farm duties such as fence repair, livestock handling, and cleaning of barns and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate with farm managers and other team members to coordinate daily tasks and prioritize work assignments.
  • Assist in the feeding and care of livestock, including cattle, year-round.
  • Follow feeding schedules and ensure proper nutrition for the herd.
  • Handle livestock with care and adhere to humane animal handling practices.
  • Assist with livestock breeding, calving, and health maintenance procedures as directed by the Foreman.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate records of livestock activities and compliance with biosecurity protocols to prevent the spread of diseases among livestock.
  • Participate in cattle branding, tagging, and other necessary procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in livestock areas, including feeding pens, corrals, and barns.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems, and perform necessary repairs or arrange for professional services.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on farm machinery and equipment, including tractors, combines, planters, harvesters, and irrigation systems. Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including service logs, parts inventory, and equipment usage.
  • Remove snow as necessary for houses and roads within the property. Puts up, takes down, and maintains the snow fences. May also provide snow removal service at the residence of other True family members.
  • Ensure all necessary equipment is winterized and winter equipment is in good working order for the winter season.
  • Keep personal pets and other animals only as approved on a case-by-case basis; adhere to condition that, in no case will animals be allowed which are dangerous, uncontrolled, or interfere with pets, horses, or other animals of family members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with four (4) years of related agriculture experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Proven experience in farm machinery maintenance and repair, including knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license appropriate for the type of equipment to be operated.
  • Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certificate or willingness to acquire certificate, if requested.
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems, including installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment, to perform repairs.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work long hours, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak farming seasons.
  • English language fluency, verbal and written.
  • Acceptable results of a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol test.
