Located north of Florence in the Siuslaw National Forest, Washburne's creekside campground is just north of Heceta Head and about 10 miles south of Cape Perpetua. The campground is located on the east side of Highway 101, with a buffer of native plants and trees between its spacious, shady sites and the highway.

This position falls under the classification Park Ranger 1.

What is a Seasonal Park Ranger?

We recruit for Seasonal Park Ranger positions each year. These positions generally work during our busiest time of year, April through September, when visitors flock to enjoy our beautiful parks. However, each park is unique and the duration of seasonal positions varies slightly from park to park.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

OR

  • An Associate's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Six (6) months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

Special Requirements:

  • To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.

  • You must have a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment

  • Skill in developing and delivering presentations and products within established resource interpretation programs.

  • Skill in monitoring basic resource interpretation presentations of seasonal and volunteer employees.

  • Skill in park rule enforcement.

  • Skill in resolving customer complaints related to overnight camping and park rule interpretation.

  • Skill in the safe use of tools, material and equipment associated with landscape, building, facility and utility system maintenance.

  • Skill in performing basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds-keeping tasks.

  • Skill in practices relating to conservation, preservation and restoration, rehabilitation of archaeological, cultural or historic sites or structures.

  • Skill in practices relating to conservation, preservation and protection of significant natural or scenic resources.

  • The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS.
